33 Conceptual States or Natures Resulting from Anger:

1. Slight dispassion (for some unwanted object) 2. Moderate dispassion 3. Extreme dispassion 4. The mind’s coming and going (inner mental going after some object. The mind going after some external object, chasing after objects) 5. Slight pain, anguish or grief (suffering coming from some unattractive object) 6. Moderate pain, anguish or grief 7. Extreme pain, anguish or grief 8. The mind at ease or peace 9. Conceptualization (the mind wild and agitated with thoughts, over-thinking, worry, paranoia) 10. Slight fear (from some unattractive object) 11. Moderate fear 12. Extreme fear 13. Slight craving (for some object) 14. Moderate craving 15. Extreme craving 16. Appropriation (taking up some sensory object as one’s own, completely clinging to it) 17. Non-virtue (to be in two minds about acting virtuously) 18. Hunger 19. Thirst 20. Slight feeling or sensation (whether pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral) 21. Moderate feeling 22. Extreme feeling 23. Consciousness (conscious awareness of an object) 24. The basis perceived by awareness or consciousness 25. Discrimination (conceptual organizing into one category or another) 26. Shame (that comes from unspoken transgressions, unconfessed non-virtuous conduct, some translators render this ‘conscience’) 27. Compassion 28. Slight love or affection (small desire from an object or focus of affection that does not bring suffering) 29. Moderate love 30. Extreme love 31. Doubt, suspicion or anxiety (an uncertain or wavering mind) 32. Gathering up (a mind that wants to collect things) 33. Miserliness (wanting to completely hold onto what one has; some lists have ‘envy’ instead)

1. Desire or passion (for an obtained object) 2. Desire for an unobtained object 3. Slight pleasure or joy (that comes from perceiving some attractive object) 4. Moderate pleasure or joy 5. Extreme pleasure or joy 6. Delight (from accomplishing some desire or goal) 7. Extreme delight or rapture (rejoicing from having experienced the delight above again and again) 8. Wonder or amazement (such as comes in the face of incredible news etc.) 9. Laughter (such as comes from when one perceived someone or something attractive and is distracted by that or loses oneself) 10. Satisfaction (from experiencing happiness) 11. Embracing (after wanting to embrace) 12. Kissing (after wanting to) 13. Sucking (some part of the body after wanting to) 14. Mental stability (an unchanging mind) 15. Diligence (exerting oneself after virtue) 16. Conceitedness (having a high or inflated opinion of oneself) 17. Completing activities 18. Robbery (the desire to rob someone of their valuables) 19. Force (desiring to overcome an opponent, other troops etc.) 20. Happily/enthusiastically proceeding (on the path of virtue etc.) 21. Slight courage/boldness (striving after an object confidently and reaching it) 22. Moderate boldness 23. Extreme boldness 24. Aggression/insolence (fighting with superiors without reason etc.) 25. Flirtation (being charming, posing and putting airs upon seeing an object of attraction) 26. Spite, ill-will or resentment 27. Virtue (i.e. the desire to exert oneself in virtuous actions) 28. Expressing oneself clearly (the desire to be clearly understood by others) 29.
